Empower

Education and income generation is a powerful way for girls and young women to become independent and provide for themselves and their families. The need for skills-based learning is more important than ever before.

There are currently 80 students at this institute but we hope to increase this to 400 students.

It costs $100 per month to give a young women the opportunity they deserve to reach their potential. By showing what love is to a young women, you are giving hope not just today, but for their future.

Through our empowerment programs, we create jobs and a reliable income for parents of our students and other community members who have little to no formal education. We show thousands of people from impoverished backgrounds that they are resource-rich in ability, determination, ingenuity, and motivation.

Business training and microloans

Through training on business skills (Skills include fashion and design, hairdressing and beauty, knitting, jewelry-making), we inspire and invest in entrepreneurs. We teach them best practices and give them small loans to start businesses. We teach them accountability, resulting in payback rates consistently over 90%. Second, third, and fourth loans empower proven business owners to increase their profits. Participants in the program make regular payments on their loans until they are repaid. Then these repayments are reinvested in more aspiring entrepreneurs, continuing the cycle of empowerment.

The LAHI GiSTEM Accelerators program is a virtual exchange program focused on empowering young women in Kenya to become changemakers. We recognize that systemic barriers hold young women back from accessing quality education globally—especially women in Sub-Saharan Africa—and that the gender gap is especially prominent in STEM. We are determined to change that.

The GiSTEM Accelerators program brings together young women in Kenya with their counterparts in the USA and Canada who are passionate about STEM. The goal is to create a transformative one-on-one experience where they share their stories, experiences, and challenges. By connecting across continents, these young women aim to break free from the status quo and push back against the limitations that have traditionally held back their Kenyan peers from pursuing STEM careers.

Through this unique exchange, young women from the USA and Canada serve as mentors and allies to their Kenyan counterparts. The cross-continental connection provides insights, guidance, and a support system that empowers Kenyan participants to dream big and defy gender-based restrictions. The GiSTEM Accelerators program encourages young women in Kenya to take ownership of their STEM education and consider STEM-related career paths. They no longer feel isolated in their pursuits, as they now have allies who understand their journey, hurdles, and aspirations. It's an opportunity for international partnerships to foster a love for STEM and empower young Kenyan women to thrive in these fields.
